The K'Thonn war forced the Bintari admiralty to revisit the concept of a Bintari heavy cruiser hull. The Bintari had always seen the T'shann's larger capital ships as being too vulnerable and had up to that point concentrated on small, cheap units instead of larger capital ships. The effectiveness of the K'Thonn Chukahni Dreadnought changed that stance.

In considering a new heavy cruiser hull the Bintari were met with a sense of urgency to enter into production as soon as possible. So it was that the Bintari decided to build upon the previous design work done for the failed Thantalus project. Using domestic rather than foreign technologies, the Thantalus Heavy Cruiser is a heavy combatant and more than a match for even the Chukahni Dreadnought.

Production of the Thantalus Heavy Cruisers has been slow but steady, producing a core heavy cruiser infrastructure for the Bintari Federation.
