A large starship, the Chu'Kahni Dreadnought was the first large scale military design employed by the K'Thonn Hierarchy. Entered into design and production at the command of the reigning Emperor, the Chu'Kahni's true purpose lies in being a 'one ship wonder'. The Chu'Kahni is meant to act as not only a ship of the line but also a troop transport, siege unit, and mobile command base.

In all of these roles the Chu'Kahni initially excelled. The capacity to berth 36 fighters or assault shuttles allows the Chu'Kahni to operate as the mobile command ship that it strived to be. That, coupled with its greater endurance time, made it the premier pre-contact K'Thonn military unit.

During the conflicts with the Bintari and then the K'Thonn Rebellion, the Chu'Kahni's abilities were put to the test. Though the ship faired well against the Bintari Shantors, they could not compete against the range advantage that the Bintari enjoyed in relation to their own plasma arsenal. The only saving grace in the eyes of the military command was their heavy loadouts of Ka'Larh fighters, the only military craft that faired overly well against the faster and longer ranged Bintari.

At the end of the K'Thonn Rebellion almost all of the Chu'Kahni Dreadnoughts to that point had been destroyed in battle. Construction on new Chu'Kahni Dreadnoughts was halted after the war. The two partially constructed hulls berthed in shipyards were completed and marked the last new-build construction for the class.
