Klavidia System Monitor
Description:

In order to supplant their modest fleet of Yusan Patrol Frigates, the Federation Defense forces purchased a bulk quantity of Kasom Mining Rigs and converted them over into system monitors. The ships lost much of their cargo capacity--leaving only what would be needed for long range patrol missions--in exchange for improved weaponry and fortified armor. By definition the Klavidia was tasked with long term voyages along the commercial lanes, constantly patrolling the region between Bintari, the asteroid belt, and the outer gas giant, Janith.

The Klavidia System Monitors fought hard in the T'shann invasion, being hunted down by packs of hunter capital ships charged with the destruction of the pockets of Bintari forces left behind in the wake of the T'shann military advance. It was common for Klavidias to fall back to civilian mining installations in order to defend them as best they could--or at the least buy time for as many to civilians to escape as was possible. By the end of the war most Klavidias had been destroyed, and those few that survived were charged with scouring the starways searching for any wreckage that could be useful and collecting the bodies of the fallen for burial back home. This was felt to be the most solemn and honorable last mission possible for the class.
