Lofuran Super Tanker
Description:
During their first century and a half of starflight, the Courata relied heavily on refined hydrogen/helium fuel produced at the gas siphoning plants circling their home system’s four outer gas giants. Courata reaction drives of the period were large, bulky affairs and highly inefficient compared to later drive systems. Ships such as Lofuran Super Tanker were used to haul processed fuels from the gas siphoning stations outward to every outpost, fleet, or ship in need of refueling.

Super Tankers often were targets of opportunity for rival families or pirates looking to disrupt vital fuel shipments. Rival families saw the interdiction of super tankers as a way to deny their enemies’ valuable resources, cutting off fleets from supply or else limiting their strategic range. These families often used their own private warships to perform raids upon tankers, but they also sometimes hired privateers to do their dirty work for them.

Unlike other raiding actions, the tankers’ volatile cargo was not valued and the raiders had no intentions of attempting to capture the ship for its contents. Rather, the raiders lusted over the large tanker hulls themselves. Captured Lofurans, stripped of non-essential systems and re-equipped with available weaponry, made for formidable pirate battlewagons.
