The Svartan Heavy Interceptors began to be deployed by the Sshel'ath around the turn of the century. This new, improved fighter design represents a shifting of doctrinal focus from light interceptors to larger, multi-role fighters. To this end the Svarton is equipped with a single heavy laser beam, a weapon capable of doing damage to ships with even heavy armor. The heavy armor and structure of the Svartan also helps to increase the survivability of the fighter.
