Vysys Patrol Cutter

One of the smallest and oldest of the K'Thonn fighting ships, the nimble frigate acts as the chief local area patrol and defense vessel for the Hierarchy. The Vysys represents the smallest ship that can possibly mount two hellbore cannons. Built with this in mind, the Vysys can deliver quite a punch to enemy capital ships. It's utility against fighters is limited, a fact which severely hinders its ability to act alone.

During the Colony Wars the Vysys shined, being able to take out comparable Colonialist starships with ease due to its advanced technologies. By the time of the K'Thonn Rebellion, however, the Vysys had lost its shine. Although the ship fought bravely and proudly under both loyalist and rebel control the Vysys simply could not weather assaults against larger and better equipped opponents. Despite their frailty, the Vysys fleet made it through the war rather well. Many Vysys' captains opted not to even join sides in the conflict, instead taking their ships to remote areas in the K'Thonn homesystem or even abandoning the system entirely. Many Vysys on both sides never saw combat as well, being left to guard small outposts that were of no interest to anyone but their owners. That being said, in the first few months of Rebellion over fourteen Vysys were destroyed.

Design Notes:

Originally a very small medium ship, I changed the Vysys over an LCV to better represent it as a fighting ship (and to get more of them on a page!). The Vysys was one of the more common ships in the fleet, despite its roll as a patrol cutter. The hull itself was inexpensive to build and could be fielded in great numbers. Many historic K'Thonn fleets would send three to five Vysys to escort larger vessels, especially towards the end of the fight when the Bintari Federation became involved and an air of desperation fell upon the aristocratic loyalists.
