The first K'Thonn heavy fighter, the Cov'Vic followed a different design path than the newer Kalarh and the two are not considered to be any more than distant relatives. Seeing the weakness and inadequacy of their first starfighter, the K'Thonn set out to design a craft that could be utilized against both enemy fighter craft (typically raiders) and also enemy ships. Armed with the same light armament as the Vikari to fill its anti-fighter role, the K'Thonn scientists did extended research into military plasma weaponry in the attempt to miniaturize a plasma weapon system of sufficient strength to be feared. The end result was the development of an early model light plasma gun. This heavy fighter weapon was mounted in a turreted fashion upon the Cor'Vic, allowing it greater range of fire in combat.
The Cor'Vic was seen as a monumental design to the K'Thonn military. However, the fighter was extremely lacking. Its turning abilities were pathetic and a lack of free thrust didn't allow it to perform the anti-fighter portion of its mission profile. Called a "rock in a wash tub", the Cor'Vic was the recipient of much derision from pilots.
Unfortunately for the Cor'Vic, one of the lead scientists on the project was blackmailed by a colonial shipping company and forced to hand over copies of the fighter's specifications--including full technical blueprints and documentation. These documents later found their way into the hands of the then formidable Colonial Opposition, a covert organization operating as an extension of the local governments of eight outer system colonies that desired total autonomy from the K'Thonn Hierarchy. They did not reproduce the Cor'Vic for their own use, seeing that the design was impractical at best and pathetic at worst. Instead they fabricated a "Cor'Vic killer", the Chagathan Strike Fighter. The two fighters are noticably similar because of this.
