One of the few mass produced ships the Bintari had before the T'shann Invasion, the Kasom Mining Rigs constructed by Intraska Technologies were a common sight in the Bintari home system. A large and cumbersome craft, these ships were designed as remote mining barges. Equipped with suitable cargo space for hauling modest amounts of ore, Kasoms often offload its raw ore onto other, smaller priority shipping craft for travel back to either a mining hub or Bintarus itself. Over two dozen companies operated Kasoms in the Bintari asteroid belt during the heyday of operations.

When the T'shann invaded in 2013, the Kasoms were one of the first units to be drafted into service to defend the almost defenseless asteroid belt colonies. Most of these died futily against the superior T'shann forces, but many captains gave their lives for the cause, ramming their vessels into opposing capital ships.

Following the war, the Kasom started to fade into obscurity. Those that survived were almost always relegated to secondary locations or sold off to small start-up companies as maintenance became an issue.
