| Description: |
The first E’chekri star fighter design was the Iesh’sa Interceptor. These small lightly armored interceptor fighters were built for one thing and one thing only: speed. Its quad-engine design allowed the Iesh’sa incredible maneuverability in combat. As a trade off, the fighter was unable to mount a very powerful weapon.
Against other primitive fighters, the Iesh’sa Interceptor was an adequate dogfighter. Against more advanced fighters, though, the class left much to be desired. The addition of a single missile hardpoint in 1775 improved the craft’s base combat capabilities, but not enough to pull it ahead of the pack.
The Iesh’sa Interceptor was later replaced by the Rol’sa Light Fighter. Both share a very similar chassis, though that is where the similarities end. In the end analysis, the Rol’sa proved to be a much better fighter and the Iesh’sa Interceptors were retired from service long before the start of the Great War. Nonetheless, some Ilesh’sas saw action during the war. Some remote E’chekri outposts continued to use the antiquated fighter for local system policing duties. The fighters were inferior to their alien counterparts and in each such engagement the Iesh’sa Interceptors performed miserably.
