Description:
One of the most feared weapons ever developed by the E’chekri was their automated mobile munitions pods. Of the munitions pods developed by the E’chekri, the Ilka’tesh class was the most common in their service. These small vessels, smaller than a normal light combat vessel, are equipped with six fighter-rails, each berthing a single hunter-killer.

The E’chekri typically only used munitions pods when attacking fixed defenses. Swapping out attack craft in order to maintain the munitions pods, the E’chekri would open a jump point and send the automated attack units through to attack the enemy’s defensive network of ships, bases, and mines. After the waves of munitions pods had dumped their deadly cargo the E’chekri fleet would arrive to mop up any survivors.

One of the disadvantages of using pods such as the Ilka’tesh to deploy hunter-killers is that the small craft are incapable of controlling the HK’s they carry – they can barely even grapple on the six HK’s that they transport let alone any other systems. This means that HK’s deployed from munitions pods are almost always uncontrolled and must operate based on preprogrammed attack criteria. Secondly, the munitions pods are unarmed and cannot defend themselves. This leaves them vulnerable on the turn after entering a battle or exiting hyperspace, and in this period of vulnerability a competent foe will try their hardest to destroy as many pods as possible.
