Description: |
As the Ulath Battlecruisers were forced back to secondary fleet staging positions as a result of vicious E’chekri attacks many were converted into auxiliary carrier hulls, stripping out weapons and power systems in order to make room for a cramped hangar bay.
These new carriers, classified as Lajafa-class by the Star Wing of the Republic, were used to shore up carrier losses on the front lines. Systems that had suffered heavy carrier casualties soon found themselves supported by small groups of Lajafa Light Carriers. Though each carrier operated only three flights of fighters this was sometimes enough to make or break an engagement.
The Lajafa Light Carriers continued to serve for a time after the end of the War, typically operating as patrol carriers within the former E’chekri territories alongside fleet scouts. The ships were taken out of service after the development of newer, larger fleet carriers.
