Following the Dilgar Invasion, the Abbai evaluated the military aspect of the war and began to analyze the factors that allowed them to maintain the defense of Ssumssha during the war. Their heavy fixed fortifications, namely their Alanti OSATs working in conjunction with the mighty Pirocia Starbases were the one factor that allowed for the Abbai to not be decimated in the same manner that the Alacans, Krish, Mitoc, and Descari had been during the war.

To this end, work was put forth to try and increase the strength of gravitic shield technologies through refinement. Many of these new technologies were employed on upgraded hulls, such as the improved shielding onboard the Bimith Defender (based on the Aldrith hull).

After some testbed work had been completed a design option was put forth: to help and fortify OSAT chains orbiting Ssumssha and other Abbai property, it would be effective to produce an OSAT devoted entirely to shielding. These "shield satellites" would have no offensive power themselves, but instead use their enlarged battery of shield projectors to protect other OSATs.

In the past, those OSATs not in close proximity to a Pirocia starbase had been forced to join together in order to enhance their gravitic shielding using the projectors. With a shield projector OSAT, it became possible for literal chains of OSATS to exist wherein shield variants would help maintain a constant shield sharing effect throughout the planetary defense grid. That would would be their sole purpose, as all offensive weaponry had to be stripped in order to allow for the installation of a secondary shield projector.

After some early testing, the Alanti-B Shield Satellite entered service. An uncommon design, the Alanti-B works alongside the standard Alanti OSAT model to provide synergistic defense coverage. In most cases Alanti-B satellites appear in pairs in key defense positions, so that chains can radiate off from either satellite, and so if one Alanti-B falls in battle the other can pick up operations and maintain the shielding grid.
